I've been playing Dragon Age: Origins recently, the latest Bioware RPG crack - errr, Western-style RPG.
Bioware is known for the fact that they typically allow the player's character to carry on a "romance" with select NPCs. All well and good, but there is a puzzling trend among male Bioware romance option heroes - they tend to be whiny and/or the emotionally weakest male in the party. You never get a self-confident man who struggles over right and wrong - you get the guy with no self esteem or the guy who is emotionally stunted. Here's some recent examples (I'm sure more knowledgeable folks could throw in more):
+ Carth "Oh Noes! My jacket is ripped and my wife is still dead!" Onasi - Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 1
+ Lt. "What's military discipline? Don't worry, I'm forgettable" Kaiden - Mass Effect 1
+ Sky "More of me for everyone! What, save the empire?" - Jade Empire
+ Alistair "Knight of the Weepy Countenance" - Dragon Age: Origins
+ Zephran "You had me at Corinthian leather" - Dragon Age: Origins
That said, thank you, Bioware, for finally giving women an option other than Sidekick Hero 1 and Bisexual Woman in the romance department, and for making ALL of the romantic options have at least some funny lines.

THE IRON-GIBBET
"And what is in a branch? There's a gibbet! That is why I call my forest the torture chamber!"
I am enjoying the series. You lot do lovely work. The chandeliers can stay up.

It doesn't hurt that sloth bears rock, but are photographed much more rarely than other bears.
